My fascination with how things operate began at an early age. To my mother’s chagrin, I used to steal old radios from the garage as a child, disassemble them, and occasionally reassemble them. That interest remained unwavering. In my teens, I set up homemade lighting systems for school plays and rewired lamps for neighbors. It was exciting and dirty, with many “why not?” moments. 

I spent more than ten years assisting companies and warehouses in streamlining their electrical systems due to my love for industrial automation. Imagine enormous robots assembling automobiles, sensors streamlining supply chains, and intelligent controls reducing energy waste by 40% daily. It was ground-breaking work, but I saw a disconnect as time passed: small companies and homes were trapped with antiquated systems, while multinationals saved millions through automation.

The “Lightbulb” Moment: Why Shouldn’t Everyone Have Smart Power?

A buddy contacted me in a panic one winter. The century-old house where her family lived had outlets that blazed like Fourth of July fireworks, flickering lights, and a heater that burdened their finances. Upon examining her setup, I discovered that her problems weren’t specific to her; they were present everywhere. The electrical systems in most modern households and small businesses came decades ago, long before cell phones, electric vehicles, or “energy efficiency.”
